There is a difference between humbleness and meekness.
One can be said to be meek, and thus they can be considered humble. But, if someone were to assume that the humble person is also meek, they would be greatly mistaken. Just because someone can bow their head in humility at certain times doesn't mean that they'll always be won over. There is considerable strength in humbleness that one cannot find in meekness, and that's self-control. A subdivision of self-control is self-respect, as well. the meek do not allow themselves to appreciate their own being, and thus lose the strength of self-control. The humble, on the other hand, have self-respect simply BECAUSE they experience humility, and do not view it was a negative quality. Their self-control is much stronger because of this.
The admission of mistakes, and owning up to responsibility instead of denial is a quality of the humble person. The humble person accepts that they have failed and resolves to learn from their mistakes. The meek simply concentrate on what they did wrong and who they upset. This contributes to anxiety over doing something else wrong in the future; contributing to disruption in the soul.
There is a difference between pride and arrogance.
The prideful take the praise that they receive and use the strength it gives them to facilitate the growth of others. The arrogant take said praise and use it to facilitate their own growth. The difference lies in where the energy is directed. Eventually, in return for help, the prideful receive more praise from those to whom they have lent a hand, and growth continues. The arrogant will never receive praise again and thus will fall, causing the energy to die out. This causes massive negativity in our world.
The prideful can be trusted as a pillar of support for others, but can also be said to be self-sufficient. Of one gives to much of their own energy, they will have none left, which can cause negativity and feelings of shame on both the part of self and that of others. Since the arrogant cannot be easily trusted by others, they give all of their energy to those around them, but if they receive none in return, they will usually give up; quit. The prideful keeps the goal in mind; the end result in the long run. They keep track of the big picture and consider all as a factor of their success. They recognize that they contribute to the success fo others and continue on their journey. The arrogant worry about the "here and now", and give little mind to the repercussions of certain actions.
There is a difference between deadliness and mercy.
The killer finds satisfaction in the end of their opponent, whereas the merciful finds satisfaction in the fact that the evil will be burdened for the span of their lives. True justice lies in mercy and the depth of trust in humanity. If a defeat is necessary, let it be a defeat and not a death. The killer cannot separate the two, however the merciful understands the breadth of the gap between defeat and death.
